Denny Jiosa is a Grammy-nominated guitarist, music producer, and recording engineer whose versatile style and sonic clarity have earned him a respected place across jazz, gospel, rock, and beyond. As the founder of Jazzcat Studio and Sonic Canvas record label, Denny eschews one-dimensional categorization—his signature blend of influence and innovation defines his musical identity.
Early Roots & Musical Calling
Denny’s musical journey began in Huntington, Indiana, where a serendipitous acoustic guitar in his childhood home sparked a lifelong devotion to music. By age six, he proclaimed to his mother he wanted to start a band. After trading the acoustic for an electric guitar and beginning formal lessons, he soon branched into writing original material by age 12.
While in high school, Denny’s multifaceted musical curiosity led him to play trumpet, French horn, bass, sing in choir, and even run his own radio show at the school’s station—giving early shape to both his performance instincts and production sensibilities.
Professional Life & Artistic Evolution
After high school, Denny studied production at Anderson University before venturing into the touring circuit. He joined Troy Shondell’s ‘50s rock revival band, opening for luminaries like B.B. King and Bo Diddley, before heading west to attend the Guitar Institute of Technology, where he honed his jazz chops under the tutelage of masters like Frank Gambale.Eventually relocating to Nashville, Denny forged a dual path as a session guitarist and studio engineer. His production and engineering credits span a diverse array of artists, including gospel, country, jazz, and more. Through his work with artists like Yolanda Adams and Ben Tankard, his contributions have garnered multiple Grammy nominations.
As a solo artist, Denny has released nine albums (to date), crafting a musical voice that merges the soulful phrasing of Wes Montgomery with textures drawn from rock, gospel, R&B, and blues. His tracks like “Lights of the City” have achieved radio success, while his albums have found acclaim on smooth-jazz and contemporary jazz formats.

At Jazzcat Studio, Denny is as much about sonic integrity as he is about performance—he approaches each recording project with the same care he gives his own music. His philosophy centers on clarity, warmth, and emotional resonance, blending analog and digital tools to better serve the music. Beyond the technical side, Denny sees himself as a creative partner: offering counsel in areas such as song selection, visual packaging, artist branding, promotion, and more—especially through his work with Sonic Canvas.
Over the years, Denny has lent his guitar, engineering, and production skills to hundreds of projects worldwide. He’s known not just for his virtuosity, but for bringing heart, transparency, and musical dialogue to every session.
